An Ancient Calling . . .
The call to be a catechist is an ancient calling going back all the way to the Early Church to the very first people who practiced the Christian faith, often risking their lives to teach the faith in secret to a society that did not accept them.
CFF Programs:
Children’s Faith Formation (CFF) catechists teach on Sundays from 11:30 am–12:30 pm, after the 10 am Mass.
Confirmation catechists meet twice a month on Sunday evenings from 6:15–7:15 pm, following the 5 pm Mass. [Update July 9, 2025: We are currently seeking a Confirmation catechist!]
All catechists receive orientation, training, and a Loyola Press textbook that includes full lesson plans. You won’t be alone—classes typically have a co-catechist and/or a classroom aide to support you.

Catechists receive training to help create a safe and welcoming environment for our students. This includes completing an online Safe Church training through Virtus and providing a fingerprint background check by registering at a local Live Scan location. Please bring two copies of the required PDF form with you to your appointment.
St. Ignatius Parish covers fees via reimbursement. Before beginning your role as a catechist, please email valid receipts for both the Virtus training and Live Scan fingerprinting to the Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation, Rosie Costa at [email protected].
