In response to God’s love and Jesus’ invitation to discipleship, addressing social justice and systemic change is part of our mission. Informed by Catholic Social Teaching, St. Ignatius provides opportunities to participate actively in the promotion and implementation of social and environmental justice, as well as direct service.

Three Mercy & Justice ministries, each with its own lay-leadership, work together at St. Ignatius Parish. These three ministries together are called "SOLAR."
SOLAR (Solidarity, Laudato Si' and ARC)
Solidarity Ministry
The Solidarity Ministry at St. Ignatius Parish raises awareness of the issues immigrant and refugee members of our community face, explores how society can better respond to those issues, and provides support to immigrants and refugees needing assistance.
ARC (Anti-Racism Committee)
Established in the wake of George Floyd's murder on May 25, 2020, ARC meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 5 pm via Zoom to respond to the challenge of how to oppose racism in all its forms. New members are always welcome.
Laudato Si' Circles
Laudato Si' Circles is a ministry where small groups of people meet regularly to deepen their relationship with God as creator and all members of creation. We are participating in the Global Catholic Climate Movement through prayer, reflection, and actions, using Pope Francis' Encyclical on the Environment, Laudato si', as our guiding document. We meet to discuss ways to incorporate this important Catholic social teaching into our everyday lives, and to understand that the Pope is asking us to take concrete action.

In addition to SOLAR, there are five other Mercy & Justice Ministries, each with its own lay-leadership, with the exception of the Church of Mercy ministry, which is currently in need of lay-leadership.Advent Giving Tree
Every holiday season, St. Ignatius Parish generously supports children, teens, adults, and seniors in need through the Advent Giving Tree Project. The Parish coordinates with local nonprofit agencies, including schools and senior care programs, to provide gifts at Christmas time to those who otherwise might not receive one. Through the generosity of St. Ignatius parishioners, the program distributes over 500 gifts to the people these agencies serve.

LGBTQIA+ parishioners, family, friends, and allies are invited to join us in making St. Ignatius Parish a welcoming space for all of God's children. Las Vecinas de El Salvador is a social ministries program that works to maintain an ongoing relationship with the people of El Salvador through our sister parish of San Antonio in Soyapango, El Salvador. As sister parishes, San Antonio Parish and St. Ignatius Parish are committed to strengthening our friendship and working together in support of peace with justice.

Shelter Meal Program
The Shelter Meal Program at St. Ignatius Parish serves San Francisco residents in need solely through the work of volunteers. Volunteers prepare over 300 wholesome meals for our brothers and sisters who, for whatever reason, find themselves homeless, without permanent shelter, or in need of assistance.

Simple Needs Sundays are regular Parish collection drives in support of the most basic and urgent needs of our homeless and struggling neighbors. Essential everyday items that are in constant need and short supply on the streets, like toiletries, socks and underwear, or a warm jacket and cap in the winter, are collected on a rotating basis at Masses on the second Sunday of most months. These are distributed locally through various Catholic service agencies directly to those most in need.
