Fr. Edward A. Reese, SJ, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, CA. Eddie was born on October 2, 1942, in Alhambra, CA. He entered the Society on September 7, 1961, and professed his final vows on July 31, 1981. He was 82 years old and a Jesuit for 63 years. For over 50 years, Eddie’s ministry was devoted to Jesuit secondary education. He served at six Jesuit schools with a perceptive eye for hiring talented faculty and administrators, and a keen ability to be present with students. After ordination, he served a variety of roles at Loyola High School, Los Angeles (1973-1977); as assistant principal for Academics (1978-1980) and principal (1980-1994) at Bellarmine College Preparatory, San Jose; director of Personal Development, St. Ignatius College, Australia (1994-1995); assistant to the president, Jesuit High School, Sacramento (1995-1996); president, Brophy College Preparatory, Phoenix (1996-2016); and as beloved president of St. Ignatius College Preparatory, San Francisco since 2016.
Earlier this summer, he was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer and moved to hospice care in the infirmary at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center. He noted the warm welcome and excellent care he received there. He was predeceased by his brother, James, and sister, Gwendolen Makowski. He is survived by his brother, Fr. Thomas J. Reese, SJ.
