Welcome New Voices

When the choir reached out last year to invite new members, I responded thinking this would be an opportunity for our daughter to sing with others. We wanted Sol to connect her desire to sing — she does so constantly at home and on her bike — with our church community and her faith.

What I didn't foresee was that I would discover that I also have a need to sing. When we joined, the choir had just started preparing for the Requiem Mass, and considering I was new to singing there was a lot to take in. It was a humbling experience. The few years of piano lessons I took as a young boy helped, but also important were the patience and support I felt while practicing and performing with the choir. Patrick has a talent to connect with a diverse group of varying talent, from people new to singing to professionals.

As I settled into a routine and started finding my voice, I noticed that I have been able to connect more deeply with music, and the meaning of singing in a choir has expanded. I am discovering music as an integral part of religious experience, connecting the personal and communal aspects of our faith.

I look forward to the coming year — more to discover, more joy to share. I feel profoundly grateful to have been so generously welcomed into this community, and excited to welcome new voices.
