Our kids have been part of the Faith Formation program for three years, and next year our oldest will join the Confirmation program. We are incredibly grateful to the catechists, mentors, program coordinators, and friends in the parish for nurturing their faith! At St. Ignatius, we have found a kind and caring community where our kids feel fully seen and welcomed, and we, as parents, enjoy companionship and friendship.
Last summer, I was invited to join the Faith Formation Commission. Deciding to accept this invitation took time. Initially, I felt uncertain about how I could contribute and concerned about practicalities. However, after a few conversations with my family and a period of discernment, I decided to participate as a way to give back and advocate for the needs of our kids. Around that time, our wiggly kids were having trouble transitioning from the 10 am Mass to their faith formation class. I asked the program coordinator if we could let the kids play on the lawn for a few minutes before their class. Gradually, our oldest child got involved, bringing out play props and inviting others to join. Slowly, the idea took off; more families were participating, volunteers were ready with play props, parish staff created a fantastic sign, and before long, the “Wiggly Ministry” (as Father Greg calls it) became a regular activity.
During our January commission meeting—my third one! —I noticed how this small idea was being shaped and brought to life in our parish. In that moment, it became evident to me how the Holy Spirit moves us to care for one another. I want you to know that the programs and activities in the parish are dynamic; they are a beautiful work in progress and everyone’s contributions are welcome.
As I continue to familiarize myself with the work of the commission, I find myself appreciating more deeply everything and everyone in our parish, and the insights connecting my faith and community life have been the most wonderful gift. I’m finding ways to be helpful, meet new friends, and deepen my faith, and my sense of belonging in the parish is growing. I hope you’ll consider nominating someone or even joining a commission!
