Meet the Choir

Stephen St. Marie"I joined the St Ignatius Parish choir nearly 30 years ago, and I have found it to be a profoundly satisfying way for me to be part of our parish. It was partly for the opportunity to sing aloud and to participate in a musical group, and partly for the companionship with my fellow choristers. But much more for the benefit of a deeper feeling of participation in the Mass and in prayer.

To be sure, God hears us even when we pray silently. And we all recite and sing together at Mass. But the choir is better. Singing prayers aloud in the choir, each person carefully enunciating and projecting the words on pitch and in harmony as part of an organized group, that experience is very moving.

“Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night!” Even more, I especially love to proclaim a psalm with the choir. A favorite is Psalm 42, “As a Doe Longs for Running Water.” Singing a psalm with the choir brings me closer to God, to the Mass, and to my fellow parishioners. Therefore, I wish to invite parishioners to come and sing with the choir. You will appreciate and enjoy this great opportunity to be part of the community worshiping together through our music.

Even if you decide not to join us in the sanctuary as a member of the choir, think about singing from your pew. The choir is here to encourage the whole congregation to sing and to participate more fully in the Mass!"
