My name is Alexa Martinez. I am a former Bay Area Catholic school student and the current Summer Camp Director at CYO Summer Camp. I am reaching out to share a bit about the summer camp that helped me so much in my youth.
Catholic Charities CYO Summer Camp is part of the San Francisco Archdiocese and is located in beautiful Occidental, California (about an hour and a half north of the city) on 216 acres of redwood forest. We are honored to be celebrating our 80th anniversary this year. The legacy of CYO Summer Camp is testament to the program and experience our campers receive.
Our mission is to help young people discover the connection between all living things; to build bridges between diverse socioeconomic and ethnic groups; and to foster in youth a deeper connection to the natural environment, to self, to the Spirit of Love, and to community... Plus, we get to swim every day! Campers get the quintessential summer camp experience with canoeing, archery and tie dye while also having facilitated self-reflection and team building activities. Campers are between the ages of 8 and 17. We offer six different 7-day sessions to choose from and proudly offer financial assistance because we believe camp should be accessible.
